Hand holding microcogs

Microcogs (image 1 of 3). Hand holding microcogs forming a microgear mechanism. This could be used in a micromachine, or MicroElectroMechanical System (MEMS). MEMS include microscopic sensors and robots (nanorobots). Microsensors are used to detect acceleration, pressure, flow rates and the presence of certain chemicals. The high-precision cogs are made of nickel to 150 microns in thickness. They were created by Professor Henry Guckel at the Wisconsin Center for Applied Microelectronics at the University of Wisconsin, USA. Magnification: x0.3 at 6x7cm size. See images T395/076-078 for the microcogs at increasing magnification

Cogs Gear Mechanical Mems Micro Micromechanical Micromechanics Nanotechnology On Hand

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate world of microcogs, held delicately in a human hand. These tiny cogs come together to form a remarkable microgear mechanism, which holds immense potential for various applications in the field of MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS). MEMS encompass an array of microscopic sensors and robots known as nanorobots. Microsensors play a crucial role in detecting acceleration, pressure, flow rates, and even specific chemicals. The high-precision cogs featured in this image are crafted from nickel with exceptional precision at just 150 microns thick. They were meticulously created by Professor Henry Guckel at the esteemed Wisconsin Center for Applied Microelectronics located within the University of Wisconsin, USA. With a magnification level of x0.3 at a size of 6x7cm, this photograph offers us an up-close glimpse into the fascinating realm of micromechanics and nanotechnology. It highlights both the beauty and complexity that lie within these minuscule components. As we marvel at this extraordinary fusion of technology and mechanics on such a small scale, it is important to acknowledge that this image is not associated with any particular company or intended for commercial use. Instead, it serves as a testament to human ingenuity and scientific progress captured by Science Photo Library – inviting us to explore new frontiers where innovation knows no bounds.
