Hand holds transistors from the 1960s to 1990s

Transistors. Hand holds an assortment of transist- ors from the 1960s to the 1980s & 1990s. Transist- ors have many uses in electronic equipment includ- ing amplification & signal processing. Transistors have three wires attached to them - the base, collector & emitter. These are attached to sect- ions of semiconductor in the transistor which have precise levels of impurities to determine their electrical properties. The amplification of the current from emitter to collector is determin- ed by the voltage of the base wire. Transistors have allowed the miniaturisation of electronic components. The first transistor was invented on 23 December 1947 by Bardeen, Brattain & Shockley

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a hand delicately cradling an assortment of transistors, spanning from the 1960s to the 1980s and 1990s. Transistors, these remarkable electronic devices, have revolutionized technology by enabling amplification and signal processing in various electronic equipment. With three wires attached - the base, collector, and emitter - transistors rely on sections of semiconductor material with precise impurity levels to determine their electrical properties. The voltage flowing through the base wire plays a crucial role in determining the amplification of current from emitter to collector. This ingenious invention by Bardeen, Brattain & Shockley on that fateful day of December 23rd, 1947 paved the way for miniaturization within electronic components. Transistors have become essential building blocks in countless technological advancements since their inception. From radios to computers and beyond, they have been instrumental in shaping our modern world. Their ability to manipulate electrical signals has transformed how we communicate, compute, and interact with electronics. In this mesmerizing image captured by Science Photo Library, we are reminded of both the historical significance and enduring impact of transistors on our lives. It serves as a visual testament to human ingenuity and innovation that continues to drive progress forward in today's ever-evolving technological landscape.
