Hands charging up a ring-pull mobile telephone

Ring-pull mobile telephone. Hands charging up a prototype of a ring-pull mobile telephone. This battery-free telephone never needs charging from a mains supply. Pulling the cord a few times charges a generator in the disc-shaped telephone, which provides power for over five minutes of talking. The yellow circle on the telephones surface is a pull-down microphone into which the user speaks. The yellow keys around the discs edge are for dialling. Speaking a name into the microphone causes it to automatically dial their number from its address book. This award-winning device was designed by Christopher Jung (born 1969) while he was at University of Berlin, Germany

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the innovative concept of a ring-pull mobile telephone. Designed by Christopher Jung during his time at the University of Berlin, this battery-free device revolutionizes the way we communicate. The hands in the image are seen charging up a prototype of this groundbreaking invention. Unlike traditional mobile phones that require constant charging from a mains supply, this remarkable telephone harnesses power through a simple mechanism. By pulling the cord attached to the disc-shaped phone, a generator is charged, providing over five minutes of uninterrupted conversation. The yellow circle on its surface serves as a pull-down microphone for users to speak into while making calls. Surrounding the disc's edge are yellow keys used for dialing numbers. However, what sets this device apart is its ability to automatically dial contacts when their names are spoken into the microphone, thanks to an integrated address book feature. Recognized with prestigious awards for its ingenuity and functionality, this ring-pull mobile telephone represents cutting-edge advancements in communications technology. Its potential impact on society cannot be understated as it eliminates reliance on batteries and offers an eco-friendly alternative. Captured by Science Photo Library, this image invites us to marvel at human innovation and envision a future where communication devices become more sustainable and efficient without compromising convenience or quality.
