Map of the Garden of Eden

Garden of Eden. 18th century diagram showing the supposed layout of the Garden of Eden. The description in the Bible tells of a garden in a region called Eden with four rivers, an east-facing entrance and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil at the centre. Once Adam and Eve had been expelled from the garden for eating the fruit of the tree, the entrance was guarded by cherubim and an omni-directional flaming sword. This engraving first appeared in the Gentlemans Magazine in 1737

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable 18th-century diagram of the mythical Garden of Eden. The intricate illustration depicts the supposed layout of this sacred garden as described in biblical texts. Nestled within a region called Eden, the garden is said to have been adorned with four rivers, an east-facing entrance, and at its very heart, the iconic Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Legend has it that after Adam and Eve were banished from this paradise for succumbing to temptation and consuming forbidden fruit from the tree, cherubim and an awe-inspiring omni-directional flaming sword guarded its entrance. This enchanting engraving was first published in 1737 by Gentlemans Magazine. The monochrome aesthetic adds an air of mystique to this historical artwork. It serves as a visual representation not only of religious significance but also as a testament to human curiosity about our origins. With elements deeply rooted in Jewish mythology and Christian beliefs, this map offers us glimpses into ancient tales passed down through generations. Todd-White Art Photography beautifully captures every detail in this vertical composition. Through their lens, we are transported back in time to explore one of humanity's most enduring stories - a tale that continues to shape our understanding of religion, history, and ourselves.
