Multiple satellite images of the Earths biosphere

The global biosphere. A sequence of false-colour satellite images of Earths biosphere, showing the distribution of vegetation on land and phytoplankton in the oceans. The colours represent chlorophyll densities: from red (most dense) through yellow & blue to pink (least dense) in the oceans; & from dark green to pale yellow on land. The ocean data was acquired by the Coastal Zone Colour Scanner (CZCS), a radiometer with optical & infrared channels on NASAs Nimbus-7 satellite. The land data is derived from the visible & infra- red sensors of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on the NOa-7 satellite

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases multiple satellite images of Earth's biosphere, providing a stunning visual representation of our planet's diverse ecosystems. The sequence of false-color images reveals the distribution of vegetation on land and phytoplankton in the oceans, offering valuable insights into the health and productivity of these vital components. The colors depicted in this image represent chlorophyll densities, with red indicating the densest concentrations and pink representing the least dense areas in the oceans. On land, the shades range from dark green to pale yellow, illustrating variations in vegetation density across different regions. To capture this comprehensive data set, NASA's Nimbus-7 satellite employed its Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS), equipped with optical and infrared channels specifically designed to study oceanic features. Meanwhile, information about land-based vegetation was derived from visible and infrared sensors on NOAA-7's Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). Through this extraordinary imagery provided by Science Photo Library, we gain a deeper understanding of our planet's intricate web of life. It serves as a reminder that Earth is a dynamic living system where both terrestrial and marine ecosystems play crucial roles in sustaining life as we know it. This print invites us to marvel at nature's beauty while also highlighting the importance of preserving and protecting these delicate environments for future generations.
