EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the breathtaking beauty of Olkhon Island in Lake Baikal, Russia. The image captures a mesmerizing view across the shore of Olkhon Island, stretching out towards the crystal-clear waters of Lake Baikal. As the largest lake by volume of fresh water in the world, second only to the Caspian Sea, Baikal is truly a natural wonder. With its impressive dimensions - spanning 636km in length and 79km at its widest point - and a maximum depth of 1642m, this inland marvel never fails to astound. Olkhon Island stands as the largest among the 27 islands scattered within Lake Baikal's vast expanse, covering an area of 730 sq. km. Rising majestically to reach heights up to 818m above the lake's surface, it offers awe-inspiring panoramic views that leave visitors speechless. Home to approximately 1500 inhabitants who are native Buryat people from Siberia's region, Olkhon sustains itself through subsistence farming while also experiencing an increase in tourism due to Baikal's UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The print perfectly encapsulates not only Olkhon Island's serene shores but also highlights elements such as lush trees dotting its landscape against a backdrop dominated by taiga forests and Siberian wilderness. This remarkable image serves as a testament to both Russia's natural wonders and humanity’s ability to coexist harmoniously with nature.
