Planetary nebula

Planetary nebula NGC 6751. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the planetary nebula NGC 6751. A planetary nebula is formed when a Sun-like star ejects its outer layers at the end of its life. These form bubbles and streamers of gas illuminated by radiation from the dying star (centre). The colours relate to temperatures here, ranging from blue (hottest) through orange to red (coolest). The nebula is about 0.8 light years wide. NGC 6751 lies around 6500 light years from Earth in the constellation Aquila. This image was taken by the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 on the HST in 1998

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of the planetary nebula NGC 6751, as captured by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The image reveals a celestial spectacle formed at the end of a Sun-like star's life when it sheds its outer layers. These expelled layers create ethereal bubbles and intricate streamers of gas that are illuminated by the dying star's radiation at its core. The vibrant colors depicted in this photograph correspond to varying temperatures within the nebula. From blue, representing scorching heat, to orange and finally red, symbolizing cooler regions. Spanning approximately 0.8 light years wide, NGC 6751 resides about 6500 light years away from Earth in the constellation Aquila. Taken in 1998 using HST's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2, this image serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity about our vast universe. It offers us a glimpse into cosmic phenomena that continue to astound scientists and stargazers alike. With its circular shape and stellar allure, this planetary nebula print is an awe-inspiring reminder of nature's ability to transform even in death. Its presence reminds us of our place within an ever-expanding cosmos filled with wonders waiting to be explored further through astronomy and astrophysics research.
