EDITORS COMMENTS
This oil-on-board painting captures the essence of Sir Richard Owen, a prominent figure in British palaeontology and anatomy during the 19th century. Painted by William Holman Hunt in 1881, this portrait showcases Owen's dignified presence and intellectual prowess. As the founder and first director of the Natural History Museum in London, Sir Richard Owen made significant contributions to our understanding of comparative anatomy and fossils.
