Roman statue of Artemis. In Grecian mythology Artemis was the goddess of the moon and hunting, agriculture and chastity, and was known as Diana by the Romans. This statue is a copy of the cult statue worshipped in the sanctuary of Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It dates from the time of Hadrian (2nd century AD), and is made of alabaster and bronze. It is 2 metres in height. The four rows of breasts or bulls scrotums are fertility symbols. This statue is displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy
