Saturn from Rhea
Saturn from Rhea. Computer artwork of the ringed gas giant plant Saturn (centre left) seen from the cratered surface of Rhea, one of its moons. The Sun (far right) is around 1430 million kilometres away, more than 9.5 times as distant as it is from Earth. This leads to very low temperatures that allow the formation of moons, such as Rhea, that consist of rock and ices. Ices is the term for the substances ammonia, water and methane, when they are found frozen in the outer solar system. Rhea is thought to be mainly water ice with rock making up about one third of it. Rhea orbits Saturn at around 527, 000 kilometres and, at 1530 kilometres across, is the second largest of Saturns moons

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning computer artwork captures the breathtaking view of Saturn from its moon, Rhea. The ringed gas giant dominates the center left of the image, showcasing its majestic beauty against the backdrop of space. From this vantage point on Rhea's cratered surface, we witness the vastness and grandeur of our solar system. The Sun appears far right in the picture, a distant star located approximately 1430 million kilometers away. Its immense distance from Rhea results in frigid temperatures that allow for the formation of moons like Rhea itself. Composed primarily of water ice with rock accounting for about one third, Rhea orbits Saturn at a distance around 527,000 kilometers. As we explore this cosmic landscape through artistry and imagination, we are reminded of the wonders that exist beyond our own planet Earth. This illustration not only showcases Saturn's mesmerizing rings but also highlights how celestial bodies interact within our universe. With each detail meticulously crafted by Science Photo Library's talented artists, this print invites us to contemplate our place in the vast expanse of space and marvel at the intricate workings of our solar system. It serves as a reminder that there is still so much to discover and understand about these enigmatic realms beyond our reach.
