SpaceX Dragon capsule at the ISS C016 / 4215
SpaceX Dragon capsule at the ISS. View from the International Space Station (ISS) of the Dragon cargo capsule from SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies) being released by the ISSs Canadarm2 robotic arm. This capsule was designed and manufactured under NASAs COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services) initiative, set up to encourage private companies to ship cargo to the ISS after the retirement of the shuttle program in 2011. On 25 May 2012, this capsule became the first commercial spacecraft to successfully rendezvous with and be attached to the ISS. It spent a week docked to the ISS, returning to Earth on 31 May for retrieval

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring sight of the SpaceX Dragon capsule at the International Space Station (ISS). The image, taken from the vantage point of the ISS, captures a momentous event in space exploration history. Here we witness the Dragon cargo capsule being released by the ISS's Canadarm2 robotic arm, symbolizing a significant milestone for both NASA and private space companies. Designed and manufactured under NASA's COTS initiative, this unmanned spacecraft was specifically created to transport vital supplies to the ISS following the retirement of NASA's shuttle program. On May 25th, 2012, it achieved an extraordinary feat by becoming not only the first commercial spacecraft but also privately-owned one to rendezvous with and dock successfully at the ISS. The Dragon capsule spent an entire week attached to our orbiting laboratory before embarking on its return journey back to Earth on May 31st. This remarkable achievement demonstrates how collaboration between government agencies like NASA and innovative private entities like SpaceX can revolutionize space travel in our modern era. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are reminded of humanity's boundless curiosity and relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond our planet. It serves as a testament to mankind's ingenuity in engineering and technology while highlighting our collective efforts towards exploring new frontiers in outer space.
