Sunderland is an English professional football club based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. The club was founded in 1879 and has played in the top two tiers of English football for most of its history and has won six First Division titles, a total only bettered by five other clubs, and it has also won the FA Cup twice. The club's traditional home colours are red and white stripes, although they have occasionally worn all-red shirts with white shorts. Sunderland currently play their home games at the Stadium of Light, which opened in 1997 as a replacement for Roker Park.
