Banker nephew of Home Secretary, cycles to work. Mr Quintin Vincent, Hoare, a nephew

Banker nephew of Home Secretary, cycles to work.
Mr Quintin Vincent, Hoare, a nephew of the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, and a director and managing partner of Londons oldest private banking firm, now travels from his home in Canonbury, North London, to his office on a bicycle.
He says it is not only quicker than a car, but it is also useful exercise. Mr Hore bought his bicycle six weeks ago after talking to a fellow director about Londons traffic problems.
Although both owned cars, they decided to try cycling.
The first time Mr Hore uses bicycle to go to the office. He saved more than seven minutes on the time he usually took to motor the same distance. He now uses the machine regularly.
29 April 1938

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures Mr Quintin Vincent Hoare, a prominent banker and nephew of the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, as he cycles to work. In an era when cars were the preferred mode of transportation for professionals, Mr Hoare's decision to ride a bicycle stands out as both unconventional and forward-thinking. Living in Canonbury, North London, he chooses this eco-friendly alternative not only because it is quicker than driving through the city's congested streets but also because it provides him with valuable exercise. Inspired by discussions with a fellow director about London's traffic problems, Mr Hoare purchased his bicycle just six weeks ago. On his maiden voyage to the office on two wheels, he managed to save over seven minutes compared to his usual commute time by car. This positive outcome encouraged him to embrace cycling regularly. Taken on 29 April 1938 during the interwar period in black and white monochrome style, this photograph showcases Mr Quintin Vincent Hoare breaking societal norms while promoting health-conscious choices amidst bustling European cities. The image symbolizes an individual who prioritizes efficiency and physical well-being over conventional means of transportation
