The Silver Jubilee Year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1977) will see the replacement on British Rail of the 1941 vintage railway coaches frequently used by the Queen and Prince Philip when travelling by rail.
Two coaches, originally built in 1972 as prototype vehicles for the 125 mph High Speed Trains now operating the worlds fastest daily diesel train sevices, have been fitted out for the personal use of the Queen and Duke.
Unlike the earlier vehicles, these coaches will be able to travel at the same 100 mph speeds as most Inter-City trains today and provide the same standards of smooth and quiet riding.
