The Mountain White Eye (Zosterops poliogaster) is a species of passerine birds belonging to the family Zosteropidae, and is native to the mountains of East Africa, ranging from Ethiopia and Somalia in the north, southwards through Kenya and Tanzania to Malawi, distinctive white eye ring, which gives it its name. Its plumage is mainly greyish-brown with darker streaks on its back and wings. It feeds mainly on insects but will also take some fruits and nectar from flowers. The Mountain White Eye lives in small flocks that move around together searching for food or shelter during the day before roosting at night in trees or bushes, and are social birds that communicate with each other using soft chirps, whistles and trills, and are an important part of their mountain habitat as they help disperse seeds which helps promote biodiversity in these regions.
