Proboscis Monkey Collection

The Proboscis Monkey (Cercopithecidae) is a species of Old World monkey native to the Southeast Asian island of Borneo, and is easily recognizable by its large, bulbous nose and long tail. The male's nose can grow up to 7 inches in length, while the female's is much smaller. The fur on the body ranges from reddish-brown to greyish-brown in color, with lighter fur on the underside and face. These monkeys live in mangrove forests near rivers and swamps, where they feed mainly on leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds, and are arboreal animals that spend most of their time in trees but occasionally come down to the ground for food or water, and are social animals that live in groups of up to 30 individuals led by a dominant male, and are endangered due to deforestation and hunting for their meat; however conservation efforts have been successful at protecting some populations from extinction.
