Red Wolf Collection

The Red Wolf is a species of wild canine native to the southeastern United States, and is the rarest and most endangered of all North American canines, with only about 200 individuals remaining in the wild, reddish-brown coat, with white fur on its chest and legs. Its ears are large and pointed, and its muzzle is long and narrow. It typically weighs between 40-80 pounds, making it smaller than other species of wolves. Red Wolves are highly social animals that live in packs consisting of an alpha male and female, their offspring, and sometimes subordinate adults or yearlings. They hunt mainly small mammals such as rabbits or rodents but will also scavenge for carrion when necessary. The main threats to this species include habitat destruction due to human development as well as hybridization with coyotes which can reduce genetic diversity in the population. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this unique animal from extinction.
