Kiang Collection

Kiang are a species of wild ass native to the Tibetan Plateau in China, and are the largest of the wild asses, and can reach up to 1.8 meters in height and weigh up to 400 kilograms. Kiangs have a thick coat of fur that is usually brown with white markings on their legs and face, as well as black stripes along their backs. They live in herds of up to 50 individuals, grazing on grasses, shrubs and other vegetation found on the high-altitude steppes they inhabit and are known for their loud braying call which can be heard over long distances across the plateau. Their population has been declining due to hunting and habitat loss, but conservation efforts have been successful in recent years leading to an increase in numbers.
