American Black Bear Collection

The American Black Bear (Ursidae) is a species of mammal found in North America, and is the most common and widely distributed bear species in the continent. The black bear has a large body, short tail, and long curved claws that are used for digging and tearing apart logs for food. Its fur is usually black but may also be brown or cinnamon-colored. The American Black Bear feeds on fruits, nuts, insects, honey, fish, small mammals and carrion, and are mostly solitary animals but will congregate near food sources such as berry patches or garbage dumps during certain times of the year and are known to hibernate during winter months to conserve energy when food sources become scarce. Human activities have caused their population numbers to decline due to habitat loss and hunting; however they remain one of the most abundant large mammals in North America today.
