TOM-852
African ELEPHANT bull - giving photographer a bluff charge.
Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe.
Loxodonta africana
This bull was feeding on Acacia tree seed pods (small orange-yellow clumps near feet). He was treating us like he does baboons - a short bums rush usually scares them away from this valuable food source.
We sat still and he went back to feeding on the pods, eventually taking some within three feet of where we sat.

EDITORS COMMENTS

Caught in the Act: When an Elephant Plays Photographer!". In this incredible shot captured by Tom & Pat Leeson, we witness a hilarious encounter between an African Elephant bull and our fearless photographer. As the massive bull indulges in his favorite delicacy - acacia tree seed pods - he spots our intrepid lensman intruding on his mealtime territory. Unfazed by the presence of mere humans, this cheeky pachyderm decides to teach them a lesson they won't forget. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he charges towards the unsuspecting photographers, giving them a taste of their own medicine! But wait! These seasoned wildlife enthusiasts refuse to be intimidated. Instead of fleeing like frightened baboons, they stand their ground with nerves of steel. And what happens next is pure comedy gold. As quickly as he charged, our bluffing elephant realizes that these two-legged creatures are not so easily scared away. Resignedly accepting defeat (or perhaps just craving those delectable seed pods), he retreats back to his feast within arm's reach of where Tom and Pat sit undisturbed. This extraordinary moment captures both the power and playfulness of Africa's majestic elephants. It serves as a reminder that even in confrontations between man and beast, there can be moments filled with laughter and awe-inspiring beauty. So next time you find yourself face-to-face with an elephant charging your way, remember to stand tall like Tom & Pat did – who.
