. This action-packed photo captures the incredible agility of a Tasmanian Pademelon as it propels itself through the air with its powerful hind legs. Just like a kangaroo, this compact and low-slung creature uses its hind legs as a catapult to launch itself forward. Pademelons are the resident macropods of Australia's eastern forests, and their unique body structure allows them to navigate easily through thick undergrowth. They seek shelter and forage in the forest, feasting primarily during late afternoon and early morning. When on the move, these pademelons utilize a network of runaways to travel between feeding grounds. In just one night, they can cover several kilometers! Sadly, due to factors such as fur trading and being hunted for food by both Aboriginals and Europeans, Tasmanian Pademelons now only exist in Tasmania and larger islands of Bass Strait. They were once found on mainland Australia but fell victim to human activities. So let this image serve as a reminder of the resilience and beauty of our wildlife.
