Maerten van Heemskerck (1498-1574) was a Dutch Renaissance artist who is best known for his paintings of Italian landscapes and religious scenes. He was born in the Netherlands and studied in Haarlem, where he was influenced by the work of Hieronymus Bosch. He traveled to Italy in 1532, where he painted many landscapes and religious works.
