Thomas Moran Collection

Thomas Moran was an American painter and printmaker of the Hudson River School. He was born in England in 1837, but his family moved to Pennsylvania when he was a child. Moran developed an interest in art at a young age and studied under Philadelphia artist James Hamilton. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and North Africa to paint landscapes. His works were highly acclaimed for their vivid colors and attention to detail. Moran's most famous painting is "The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone," which he completed in 1872 after visiting Yellowstone National Park with Ferdinand Hayden's survey team. His work helped convince Congress to establish Yellowstone as America's first national park. Thomas Moran died in 1926 at the age of 89 after a long career as one of America's most renowned landscape painters.
