1914 Junior TT start

Riders wait to start the 1914 Junior TT. No. 25 was Fred Walker (Royal Enfield); he had led the race for the first two laps. He was then delayed with tyre trouble and, in trying to make up lost time, came of a couple of times. However, he was allowed to proced and finished in third place. But, seemingly dazed from earlier crashes, he carried straight on at the finish, ploughed into a barrier and was killed

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this poignant photo print, we are transported back to the thrilling yet tragic 1914 Junior TT start. The anticipation is palpable as riders eagerly await their turn to embark on a daring journey through the treacherous Isle of Man circuit. Among them stands Fred Walker, astride his powerful Royal Enfield machine, exuding confidence and determination. As the race commences, Walker quickly establishes himself as a force to be reckoned with, leading the pack for two exhilarating laps. However, fate intervenes in the form of tire trouble that hampers his progress. Undeterred by this setback, he pushes harder than ever to make up for lost time but encounters multiple spills along the way. Despite these setbacks and seemingly dazed from earlier crashes, Walker valiantly soldiers on towards the finish line. Tragically though, destiny had other plans for him that day. In an unexpected twist of events at the end of his arduous journey, he plows into a barrier with devastating consequences – losing his life in pursuit of glory. This haunting image serves as a stark reminder of both triumph and tragedy intertwined within motorsport history. It immortalizes Fred Walker's unwavering spirit and courage while paying homage to those who have made ultimate sacrifices in their quest for victory
