The 1922 OK Supreme Lightweight team

1922 saw the TT debut of Wal Handley (26), a messenger for OK Supreme. Seeing the course for the first time, and without the benefit of a tour round, Wal headed off in the reverse direction of the course, being stopped at Governors Bridge. He learnt well, and set the fastest race lap on the Blackburne-engined OK, before retiring, His team mates Neville Hall (4) and Charlie North finished 6th and 7th. Handley went on to win 4 TTs

EDITORS COMMENTS
The 1922 OK Supreme Lightweight team captured in this vintage print showcases the early days of TT racing, with a remarkable debut by Wal Handley. A humble messenger for OK Supreme, Handley embarked on his first race without any prior knowledge of the course. In an unfortunate twist, he initially set off in the opposite direction but was soon halted at Governors Bridge. Undeterred by this setback, Handley quickly adapted and familiarized himself with the track. Riding the powerful Blackburne-engined OK machine, he went on to achieve the fastest lap time of the race before eventually retiring. Meanwhile, his teammates Neville Hall and Charlie North displayed their skill and determination as they secured impressive 6th and 7th place finishes respectively. Little did anyone know that this would be just the beginning for Wal Handley's illustrious career. Over time, he would go on to claim victory in four TT races, leaving an indelible mark on motorcycle racing history. This print not only serves as a nostalgic reminder of a significant moment in motorsport but also pays tribute to these pioneering individuals who pushed boundaries and paved the way for future generations of racers.
