The Parc National des Volcans is home to over 300 endangered mountain gorillas, with only about 1,004 individuals remaining in the wild. This critically endangered subspecies of eastern gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) roams freely through the park's dense tropical forest, where they feed on leaves, shoots, and fruits.
In this breathtaking image, the adult male gorilla stands tall amidst the verdant foliage, its thick black fur glistening in the dappled light filtering through the canopy above. The gentle giant's piercing gaze seems almost human-like as it surveys its surroundings with quiet contemplation.
