EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Paul Seheult transports us to the ancient city of Rome, specifically to the majestic Forum. In the foreground, we are greeted by a remarkable sight - fiberglass reconstructions of Corinthian columns that once adorned the grand Temple of Venus and Roma. This temple holds great significance as it was not only the largest known temple in ancient Rome but also dedicated to two powerful goddesses: Venus Felix, who brought good fortune, and Roma Aeterna, symbolizing eternal Rome. Designed by none other than Emperor Hadrian himself, construction on this magnificent structure began in 121 AD. It took several years for its completion under Antoninus Pius in 141 AD. Unfortunately, time has left its mark on this historical treasure as fire ravaged it in 307 AD. However, thanks to Emperor Maxentius' restoration efforts with some alterations, we can still admire its splendor today. The Temple of Venus and Roma is strategically located at the far east side of the Forum Romanum near another iconic landmark - the Colosseum. Its imposing presence serves as a testament to Rome's rich architectural heritage and cultural legacy. As we gaze upon this photograph print captured by EyeUbiquitous, we are reminded of Europe's western charm intertwined with history and archaeology. The intricate details showcased within this image allow us to appreciate both the craftsmanship involved in constructing such marvels and our ability to preserve them through artful documentation like Seheult's work here.
