EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an exquisite piece of jewelry known as the Emerald sarpech, originating from Deccan in the mid-18th century. Crafted by Indian School artists, this turban ornament is a true testament to their exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Measuring 36.5 cm in length, the Emerald sarpech features a stunning arrangement of emeralds, diamonds, enamel, and yellow gold. The three hinged central panels are adorned with vari-cut emeralds set within table-cut diamond and yellow gold surrounds. Delicate emerald bead drops gracefully suspend from these panels. The centerpiece of this ornate piece is the tapering scroll aigrette designed in the form of an openwork flowerhead. It boasts a central hexagonal emerald surrounded by graduated emeralds and diamonds that culminate in another elegant emerald bead drop. The headbands on either side are embellished with graduated open-backed emeralds and table-cut diamonds which further enhance its regal allure. A fringe of mesmerizing emerald beads completes this opulent masterpiece. Notably certified by SSEF Swiss Gemological Institute, it has been confirmed that 78 Colombian origin emeralds along with one Brazilian origin gemstone have been used in its creation. Additionally, traces of oil can be found on some stones adding to their unique character. This photograph beautifully captures every intricate detail of this historic artifact held within a private collection today. Its vibrant colors and impeccable design make it truly deserving of admiration for generations to come.
