EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures a stunning depiction of a field officer's full dress coatee from the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot, dating back to 1810. This exquisite piece of fabric showcases the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail that was characteristic of British military uniforms during the 19th century. During this period, the 27th Regiment was stationed on Sicily, having arrived there in 1805 from Naples. In 1812, they left the island to join the Peninsular War, where they fought their way through Spain and into France until their ultimate involvement in the historic Battle of Waterloo in 1815. It is worth noting that at Waterloo alone, this regiment suffered an astounding number of casualties amounting to approximately 480 soldiers. This photograph not only serves as a visual reminder of a bygone era but also pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice exhibited by these officers and soldiers who served under such challenging circumstances. The full dress uniform represented here symbolizes both prestige and honor within military ranks. Displayed at London's National Army Museum, this image offers viewers an opportunity to appreciate historical artifacts that have shaped our understanding of warfare throughout history. Its inclusion in Fine Art Finder's collection further emphasizes its artistic value beyond its historical significance.
