EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the service dress tunic worn by Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Preston Hohler, a distinguished officer of The Duke of Cambridges Own (Middlesex Regiment) during the early 20th century. The tunic, dating back to 1917, is displayed with remarkable detail and precision. Lieutenant-Colonel Hohler's military career was marked by his courageous service in various theaters of World War One, including Gallipoli, Palestine, and Egypt. His commitment to duty and unwavering bravery earned him the esteemed Distinguished Service Order, as well as a first bar awarded later on. Beyond his military achievements, Lt. -Col. Hohler had another passion: horse riding. He was an avid equestrian who rode with the South Oxfordshire Hunt and even participated in notable races under the pseudonym Mr A Chilton. In fact, before embarking on his wartime journey to Egypt and Gallipoli with his battalion in 1915, he competed in both the National Hunt Steeplechase at Cheltenham and Soldiers and Sailors Handicap Steeplechase at Lingfield. Tragically, despite surviving the horrors of war unscathed, Lt. -Col. Hohler's life was cut short upon returning to England in 1919. Nevertheless, this print serves as a poignant tribute to his gallantry and enduring legacy within The Duke of Cambridges Own (Middlesex Regiment).
