EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning pendant that tells the story of Miss Edith Emma Cooper, a remarkable poet and writer from the late 19th and early 20th century. Crafted in 1901 by Charles Ricketts, this exquisite piece is made of gold, enamel, pearl, and watercolor. The intricate design features Pegasus Drinking from the Fountain of Hippocrene on its outer surface. Miss Cooper's aunt, Katherine Bradley, received this miniature as a gift from Ricketts himself in May 1901. Both Miss Cooper and Miss Bradley were poets who wrote under the name Michael Field. They were affectionately known to their close circle as Michael (Miss Bradley) and Henry (Miss Cooper). Later that year, Carlo & Arthur Giuliano meticulously created the pendant to house this precious artwork. The photograph captures not only the ornate beauty of this Edwardian-era jewelry but also symbolizes the deep connection between artistry and literature. It serves as a testament to Miss Cooper's talent as a female writer during an era when women faced numerous challenges in pursuing their literary aspirations. With its embellished details and baroque style, this pendant stands as both an artistic masterpiece and a celebration of Miss Edith Emma Cooper's contribution to British literature. This enchanting print allows us to appreciate her legacy while marveling at the craftsmanship behind such intricate designs.
