Leierkasten Mit Tanzpuppen / Barrel Organ with Dancing Puppets (colour litho)

8666228 Leierkasten Mit Tanzpuppen / Barrel Organ with Dancing Puppets (colour litho) by Christophe (Colomb, Georges) (1856-1945); Private Collection; (add.info.: Leierkasten Mit Tanzpuppen. Translation: Barrel Organ with Dancing Puppets. In the 19th century, the hurdy-gurdy or barrel organ replaced the ancient so-called farmer's lyre or hurdy-gurdy. Just as the organ grinder had a monkey sitting on the barrel organ until recently, so in the past artificial figures (puppets) were attached to a rotating disk, which, set in motion by the cylinder, rotated in time with the music.
