8666243 Munchener Bierkeller / Munich Beer Cellar (colour litho) by Christophe (Colomb, Georges) (1856-1945); Private Collection; (add.info.: Munchener Bierkeller. Translation: Munich Beer Cellar. In addition to viticulture, hop growing was practiced in Germany early on and beer brewing was mostly cultivated in the monasteries. In more recent times, brewing has grown into an extensive trade. The largest breweries were established in Bavaria, and just as one cannot imagine Vienna without its coffee houses, so Munich cannot without its famous beer cellars.
