EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving, titled "The Black and Blue Tit-mouse" transports us back to the 18th century when George Edwards first created this masterpiece. The print showcases the exquisite artistry of Michael Seligmann, a talented German engraver and illustrator from Nuremberg. Originally engraved by George Edwards in his renowned works "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" and "Gleanings of Natural History". Seligmann took on the task of re-engraving these plates. He skillfully combined them with Catesby's work, "A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands". In doing so, he not only translated the names into German but also added some unique figures and plants that were absent in the original prints. "The Black and Blue Tit-mouse" is a testament to nature's beauty as it depicts this enchanting bird species in all its glory. With its striking black and blue plumage, this tit-mouse stands out among its feathered counterparts. The intricate details captured through engraving bring life to every delicate feather and highlight the bird's elegance. As we gaze upon this remarkable illustration, we are reminded of our connection with nature throughout history. This print serves as a window into an era where scientific exploration merged seamlessly with artistic expression. It invites us to appreciate both the wonders of avian diversity and human creativity that transcends time.
