EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Lesser Green Parrot" a beautifully colored engraving created by George Edwards in 1749-73. The original work was later re-engraved by Michael Seligmann, a talented German engraver, illustrator, and art dealer from Nuremberg. Edwards initially included this artwork in his renowned publications titled "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" and "Gleanings of Natural History". However, Seligmann took it upon himself to enhance the plates by combining them with the works of Mark Catesby's "A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands". In doing so, he translated the names into German and added additional figures and plants that were absent in the originals. "The Lesser Green Parrot" is an exquisite representation of nature's wonders. Its vibrant colors and intricate details bring this magnificent bird to life on paper. This engraving not only serves as an artistic masterpiece but also contributes to our understanding of avian species through its inclusion in natural history collections. Displayed here is a print from ePurix Verlag Volker Christen featuring Bridgeman Images' high-quality reproduction. It offers viewers an opportunity to appreciate both the beauty of nature captured within this illustration and the skillful craftsmanship behind its creation.
