Signed Boucheron, no. 351
This unique desk ornament was created the year Frederic Boucheron (1830-1902) moved to Place VendA'me, in 1893. After an apprenticeship with Jules Chaise and the opening of its first premises at the Palais Royal, Frederic Boucheron was the first jeweller to settle on the famous Parisian square. He had already acquired fame as an expert in precious stones, a masterful technician and creator of beautiful jewels, winning the gold medal during the Exposition Universelle in 1867.
He worked for Boucheron as a jeweller between 1887 and 1920 creating objects such as inkstands, bottles, watches and boxes. His name was one of the select group of principal Boucheron jewellers chosen by Frederic Boucheron to be featured at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900.
This rare box displays Le SachA©s unique and impressive skills in carving. The craftsmanship on this box is in ivory, however, his skills were versatile and he is known to have produced impressive carved items in other materials such as tortoiseshell and rock crystal.
Objects by Le Sachealso appear in the Tiffany collection and the firm thought so highly of the jeweller that they commissioned him to produce a brooch to commemorate the centenary of the United States acquisition of Louisiana from Napoleon I.); Photo eChristies Images; French, out of copyright

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a rare bank note holder created for Boucheron in 1893. Crafted by Georges le Sache, this exquisite piece is made of ivory, gold, enamel, rubies, sapphires, and amethysts. Measuring 26x15x5 cm, it is currently held in a private collection. The rectangular box features intricately carved ivory panels adorned with cherubic and floral motifs. Gold and enamel are applied to the design in stunning floral patterns that are further enhanced by cabochon rubies, sapphires, and amethysts. Opening the box reveals three graduated compartments with delicate ivory openwork panels. Signed by Boucheron as number 351, this unique desk ornament was created during Frederic Boucheron's move to Place Vendôme in Paris. Known for his expertise in precious stones and masterful craftsmanship of beautiful jewels since winning the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1867; Frederic Boucheron selected Le Sache as one of his principal jewellers. Le Sache's exceptional carving skills shine through on this rare box crafted from ivory. Although he primarily worked with ivory like this masterpiece before us today; Le Sache also demonstrated versatility by creating impressive carved items using materials such as tortoiseshell and rock crystal. His talent was highly regarded not only by Boucheron but also Tiffany & Co. , who included his creations in their collection. In fact, they commissioned him to produce a brooch commemorating the centenary of the United States' acquisition of Louisiana from Napoleon I. This photograph captures both Le Sache's remarkable artistry and an important piece of jewelry history.
