EDITORS COMMENTS
This oil painting, titled "Children dressing up (Boys)" takes us back to the late 18th century in Portugal. Created by an anonymous artist from the Portuguese School, this masterpiece is housed at Palacio Nacional in Queluz, Portugal. The scene depicted showcases two young boys engrossed in their imaginative play. Dressed in exquisite rococo costumes, they stand before a wall adorned with vibrant paintings and a grand mirror reflecting their youthful innocence. One boy holds a sword while the other clutches a stick, both embracing their roles with enthusiasm. The room itself is meticulously decorated, showcasing the opulence of the era. The palace was built between 1747 and 1752 and served as a residence for Portuguese royalty. This particular setting is believed to be within the queen's boudoir - an intimate space where these children could freely explore their creativity. Intriguingly, there is mention of another painting featuring a girl (see 103703), suggesting that this artwork may be part of a series capturing different aspects of childhood during that time period. Through this remarkable piece of art captured by Bridgeman Images' print collection on Fine Art Finder, we are transported to an era where imagination thrived and children found joy in dressing up and engaging in make-believe adventures.
