EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a historic moment in the 19th century, as the 19th Hussars are formed up in front of a majestic pyramid at Giza, Egypt. Taken around 1882 by an unknown photographer, this image is now part of the collection at the National Army Museum in London. During the Egyptian expedition of that year, the 19th Hussars played a significant role. They fought bravely at Tel el Kebir on September 13th as part of the Cavalry Brigade. After their victory, they pursued Arabi Pasha's defeated forces towards Cairo. The composition of this photograph is striking; it showcases both military discipline and architectural grandeur. The soldiers stand tall and proud in their uniforms while being dwarfed by the massive pyramid behind them. It serves as a reminder of British imperialism during this era and their presence in Egypt. This particular print is one among thirty photographs collected by Edouard Eugene Dulier between approximately 1870 to 1882. Preserved for generations to come, it offers us a glimpse into history and provides valuable insights into military campaigns during that time. Bridgeman Images has made this image available through Fine Art Finder, allowing us to appreciate its historical significance and artistic beauty today.
