Revolt des vignerons du Midi in 1907 (postcard)
PCT4264100 Revolt des vignerons du Midi in 1907 (postcard); (add.info.: Revolt des vignerons du Midi in 1907: postcard showing the "" chef des gueux""" Marcelin (Marcellin) Albert, sitting with his famous Kronstadt hat on his knee. At that time, Marcelin Albert came as a sort of saint by the whole wine population of the Midi. This map testifies: its condition shows that it was stuffed for several decades on the walls of the house. The card was sent by an 18-year-old Minervois winemaker's daughter to her parents on June 8, 1907, before the great demonstration in Montpellier. The legend printed on the back of the map shows the increasing number of protesters at the meetings of Lezignan (25,000), Narbonne (80,000), Beziers (150,000), Perpignan (185,000), Carcassonne (200,000), Nimes (300,000), Montpellier (800,000). The surprising thing is that the Montpellier figure is given, whereas the card was printed before the demonstration! Manuscript text of the map: "" Have a good trip - find accommodation - many protesters. Good welcome from the city. (Don't worry))

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a pivotal moment in history - the Revolt des vignerons du Midi in 1907. The postcard features Marcelin Albert, known as the "chef des gueux," sitting with his iconic Kronstadt hat on his knee. Marcelin Albert was revered as a saint by the wine population of the Midi during this tumultuous time.
The condition of this postcard speaks volumes about its significance - clearly cherished and displayed for decades on someone's wall. It was sent by an 18-year-old Minervois winemaker's daughter to her parents just days before the massive demonstration in Montpellier.
The legend printed on the back of the postcard reveals staggering numbers of protesters at various meetings throughout the region, culminating in an astonishing 800,000 people gathering in Montpellier. What is truly remarkable is that this figure was included on the card before the actual demonstration took place!
The handwritten message on the map offers advice and reassurance to loved ones attending the protest, emphasizing good hospitality and urging them not to worry. This piece serves as a powerful reminder of a time when ordinary people came together to fight for their rights against all odds.
