This print showcases a rare and valuable manuscript, "De civitate Dei" with commentary by Thomas Waleys and Nicolaus Trivet. Printed in 1489 by the Swiss School, this vellum-bound masterpiece measures 31.9 x 21.6 cm and currently resides in a private collection. The work itself is attributed to Augustine of Hippo, a prominent theologian from the 4th to 5th century. It consists of two significant writings: "De civitate Dei" and "De trinitate". Both were printed by Johann Amerbach in Basel during the same year, making this particular edition an extraordinary find for collectors and scholars alike. Of particular note is the woodcut on the verso of the title-page in "De civitate Dei". This woodcut is credited as being the first known work created by the Master of Haintz-Narr.
