Raymond VII of Toulouse (1197 - 1249), was count of Toulouse, and marquis of Gothie and Provence of 1222 to 1249. After years of guerrilla warfare, and a few weeks of negotiations at Meaux, Raymond resigned himself to signing the Treaty of Paris in 1229, by which he ceded the old Viscounts Trencavel to the King of France. This submission restored a real dependence of the County of Toulouse to the Crown of France, and Pope Gregory IX soon created, in 1233, the Inquisition to fight against the Cathar doctrine.); Universal History Archive/UIG
