Unveiling the Forgotten Past - The Derelict Beauty of Chatterley Whitfield

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print by Alan Tunnicliffe Photography, we are transported to the derelict site of Chatterley Whitfield in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. November 4th, 2017 marks the day when these old abandoned buildings at the Chatterley Whitfield pit were captured through Tunnicliffe's lens. Once a bustling coal mine and an integral part of The North Staffordshire Coalfield, Chatterley Whitfield Colliery now stands as a haunting reminder of its former glory. This disused colliery, situated on the outskirts of Chell, holds historical significance as it was not only the largest mine working in its region but also made history by becoming the first colliery in The UK to produce one million tons of saleable coal within a year. Tunnicliffe's photograph encapsulates both the melancholy and allure that emanate from these forgotten structures. As nature slowly reclaims what was once man-made, moss-covered walls and shattered windows stand testament to time's relentless march forward. Yet amidst decay and neglect, there is an undeniable beauty that emerges; a beauty born out of resilience and stories untold. This print serves as a poignant reminder of our industrial heritage while inviting us to reflect upon how progress can sometimes leave behind remnants begging for remembrance. Through his lens, Alan Tunnicliffe has immortalized this
