Tintern Abbey, Wales
Tintern Abbey was originally founded by Cistercian monks in 1131 AD. in the reign of Henry I. Between 1270 and 1301 the Abbey was rebuilt and by the end of the rebuilding, around four hundred monks lived in the complex. Its demise came with dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII. The ruins of Tintern Abbey lie between the River Wye and the A466 road at the southern end of Tintern village. The hills around the Abbey are covered with woods, changing colour with the seasons. The land upon which the Abbey is set makes the most of the sunlight- the last of the sun shining down the Angiddy valley

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the timeless beauty of Tintern Abbey in Wales. Originally established by Cistercian monks in 1131 AD, during the reign of Henry I, this abbey flourished as a spiritual haven for centuries. The period between 1270 and 1301 witnessed an ambitious rebuilding project that transformed the complex into a magnificent sanctuary where around four hundred monks resided. However, like many other religious institutions, Tintern Abbey faced its demise with the dissolution of monasteries under Henry VIII. Today, all that remains are hauntingly beautiful ruins nestled between the gentle flow of River Wye and the A466 road at the southern end of Tintern village. Surrounded by lush hills adorned with ever-changing woods that paint a vivid tapestry with each passing season, this sacred site basks in nature's splendor. As sunlight cascades down the Angiddy valley, it illuminates every nook and cranny of this historic landmark. Lynda Morris Photography has masterfully captured this ethereal scene in her exquisite artwork. This print is not just a visual delight but also serves as a poignant reminder of our rich heritage and how time can transform even grand structures into poetic remnants.
