Young woman reading book in nature at spring art nouveau 1896
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names: Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme catala in Catalan, etc. In English it is also known as the Modern Style. The style was most popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Epoque period that ended with the start of World War I in 1914.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1896, we are transported to a serene spring day in the heart of nature. A young woman is immersed in her own world, engrossed in the pages of a book. The art nouveau style shines through with its intricate details and flowing lines, capturing the essence of this artistic movement that swept across Europe during the Belle Epoque period. Surrounded by blossoming flowers and lush foliage, the woman finds solace in her reading as she basks in the beauty of her natural surroundings. The delicate balance between human presence and nature's splendor is beautifully depicted, showcasing the harmonious relationship between mankind and their environment. This original edition print holds historical significance as it offers us a glimpse into an era long gone. Preserved within private archives until now, it serves as a testament to the enduring allure of art nouveau. With Jugendstil being its German name, Stile Liberty for Italians, Modernisme catala for Catalans – these diverse names reflect its international appeal. The drawing itself was masterfully created by R. Witzel who skillfully captured every nuance of this idyllic scene. As we admire this artwork from Grafissimo's collection at Fine Art Storehouse, we are reminded not only of our connection to nature but also how art has always been able to transcend time and evoke emotions that resonate with us even today.
