The First Rains Arrive at Sunset to a Farm Field Freshly Prepared and Planted with Maize Seed. Magaliesburg. Gauteng Province, South Africa
Agriculture is an industry attempted by many but mastered by few. This particular farmer who farms the largest amount of land in Magaliesburg and the North West provinces of South Africa was born and raised here and has truly mastered the art of planting seed and having rains arrive the very same day. Magaliesburg, which borders onto the North West province of South Africa, is a large farming district responsible for a fair percentage of the countrys maize (corn) and sunflower crops. The maize is ground into a fine, lightly gritty, white powder which is cooked with water into what is known locally as Sadza by the african people or Mieliepap (Afrikaans for maize porridge) and serves as a staple food for the greater majority of South Africas population. Pap is taken from Dutch and simply means porridge. It is the South African equivalent of yellow Polenta
