EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the "First Locomotive from 1770" in all its historical glory. Constructed by engineer Eugnot in Paris, this locomotive is believed to have been used on the streets during that time period. Engineer Cugnot, known for his innovative ideas, successfully employed a device that converted the reciprocating motion of a steam piston into rotary motion using a ratchet arrangement - an engineering feat ahead of its time. The photograph also features a small version of Cugnot's three-wheeled fardier à vapeur, or "steam dray" which had already made its debut in 1769. This invention further solidified Cugnot's reputation as a pioneering French inventor. Preserved meticulously over the years, this original edition print comes from Grafissimo's personal archives and offers us an invaluable glimpse into the past. Sourced from the illustrious Konversations Lexikon of 1876, it serves as a testament to both technological advancements and our fascination with history. As we admire this remarkable piece of machinery frozen in time through this photo print, let us appreciate the ingenuity and vision displayed by Cugnot and other inventors who paved the way for modern transportation systems.
