Road and rock formation in Jemez Valley, New Mexico, USA
Sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition and subsequent cementation of mineral or organic particles on the floor of oceans or other bodies of water at the Earths surface. Sedimentation is the collective name for processes that cause these particles to settle in place. The particles that form a sedimentary rock are called sediment, and may be composed of geological detritus (minerals) or biological detritus (organic matter). Before being deposited, the geological detritus was formed by weathering and erosion from the source area, and then transported to the place of deposition by water, wind, ice, mass movement or glaciers, which are called agents of denudation. Biological detritus was formed by bodies and parts (mainly shells) of dead aquatic organisms, as well as their fecal mass, suspended in water and slowly piling up on the floor of water bodies (marine snow). Sedimentation may also occur as dissolved minerals precipitate from water solution

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of Jemez Valley in New Mexico, USA. The rugged road winds its way through a stunning landscape adorned with magnificent rock formations. These rocks are not just ordinary stones; they are sedimentary rocks that have been formed over millions of years. Sedimentary rocks are created when mineral or organic particles settle and cement together on the ocean floor or other bodies of water on Earth's surface. This process, known as sedimentation, occurs as these particles gradually come to rest in their designated places. The sediments that make up these rocks can be composed of geological detritus, such as minerals eroded from source areas by weathering and erosion. They can also consist of biological detritus, including shells and fecal matter from aquatic organisms. Transported by various agents like water, wind, ice, mass movement or glaciers (known as agents of denudation), these sediments eventually accumulate on the floor of water bodies. Over time, dissolved minerals may also precipitate out from water solutions to contribute to this sedimentation process. In this breathtaking image captured by Danita Delimont for Fine Art Storehouse's collection, we witness nature's artistic prowess at its finest - an exquisite blend of earthy tones and intricate patterns carved into the rocky terrain. Let yourself be transported to this enchanting place where time has sculpted a masterpiece for all to admire.
