Framed Print of A Union Jack flies from the top of a crane on a construction site to celebrate the Coronation of the British monarch

A Union Jack flies from the top of a crane on a construction site to celebrate the Coronation of the British monarch, King George VI, on 12 May 1937 A Union Jack or Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom, flies proudly from the top of a crane working on a steel-framed building under construction to celebrate the Coronation of the British monarch, King George VI, on 12 May 1937. King George VI, father of the present British Queen, Elizabeth II, succeeded to the throne in 1936 on the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. Edward married Wallis Simpson and the couple were subsequently titled Duke and Duchess of Windsor. This photograph was taken by a Yorkshire married couple, George and Kathleen Blenkhorn, and captioned by them Coronation Spirit in a Blenkhorn family album. In 1937, the Blenkhorns lived in Birkby, a suburb close to Huddersfield town centre. D1342.B7004. © Terence Kerr
