Pictured is a Vickers FB5 Gunbus. It was the first aircraft purpose-built for air-to-air combat to see service, making it the worlds first operational fighter aircraft.
It was armed with a single.303 in (7.7 mm). Lewis gun operated by the observer in the front of the nacelle.
the Gunbus was one of the first successful scout (or fighter) aircraft employed the Royal Flying Corps in France. No 11 Squadron was the first unit to be equipped solely with the Gunbus, making it the first fighter squadron as such in February 1915.
