At sunset, a caïque led by twelve rowers leaves the port of Constantinople. The sultana reclines at the stern of the boat, while a red-clad dancer stands at the bow, unfurling a veil and accompanied by two musicians seated next to her. A crescent moon can be seen in the still azure late-day sky. In the background, the dome of Sainte-Sophie and the city's minarets stand out. A few seagulls fly over the calm waters of the Bosphorus.
